Tens of thousands of people have been displaced after fleeing southern Lebanon as intense Israeli bombardment across Lebanon has killed at least 569 people, including 50 children.

The attacks take place during the start of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York and 12 months since the start of Israel’s Gaza genocide. World leaders delivered speeches denouncing the mass killing, with many questioning Israel’s actions that seem to recognize no rules.

The US and Israel are indeed becoming isolated for the biggest crime humanity has seen in many decades.

‘ISRAEL IS DETERMINED TO ENTER INTO A FULL-SCALE REGIONAL WAR’

Speaking to INX Prime, Executive Director of the Afro-Middle East Centre, Na’eem Jeenah said that Israel is determined to drag the region into an all-out war. He explained that Prime Minister Netanyahu has announced new targets for the assault on Lebanon, which may be distracting attention from Gaza.

“The Israelis are determined to go on a full-scale war with not only Hezbollah but with the entire region.”
– Na’eem Jeenah

Jeenah added that since Israel failed to meet its objectives in Gaza, it has shifted focus to Lebanon, even extending attacks to Beirut.

ISRAEL’S ‘INSANE’ ACTIONS CONDEMNED BY IRAN

Iran's Foreign Ministry described Israel's escalation into Lebanon as 'insane'. Jeenah reinforced that Israel’s actions are baiting other regional players and drawing the US deeper into the conflict.

“It is clear that Israel wants to deal with Iran once and for all with the help of its biggest ally, the United States of America.”
– Na’eem Jeenah

ISRAEL’S JUSTIFIED SENSE OF IMPUNITY

Jeenah explained that Israel has acted with impunity for over 70 years, ignoring UN resolutions. He noted that despite numerous violations, the global community has not intervened, allowing Israel to continue its aggressive policies unchecked.

“That is why Israel acts as it pleases, and its sense of impunity is entirely justified.”

ESCALATIONS WILL GET WORSE

Jeenah compared the current conflict with Israel’s 31-day war with Hezbollah in 2006, which killed over 1,200 people. He emphasized that the scale of destruction this time is much worse, and Israel is showing no signs of de-escalation.

He concluded by stating that unless the UN Security Council reforms and superpowers like the United States are held accountable, the world cannot expect meaningful action in Lebanon or Gaza.
